Florence, S.C. – The Georgia College
women's basketball team (12-4, 4-4 PBC) dropped their fourth Peach
Belt Conference (PBC) game of the season at Francis Marion
University (12-5, 5-4 PBC) Friday night, 73-55.
Chimere Jordan
(Gray, Ga.) paced the Bobcats yet again with 25 points,
her ninth 20-plus scoring game of the season and 14th
double-digit scoring game. Jordan shot 10-of-22 from the field and
5-of-5 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed seven boards, had
four assists and three steals. The Bobcats had only one other
scorer in double-digits, as guard Karisma Boykin
(Carrollton, Ga.) had 12, shooting 3-of-4 from the field
and 2-of-2 from downtown. She also dished out four assists.
The first half did not start out the way GC expected as the
Patriots went on an 8-0 run over the first two minutes. Francis
Marion was relentless, opening the game up to 14 points at 25-11
with five to play. The Bobcats would not go quietly as they came
storming back going on a 10-0 run. The four point differential is
the closest the Bobcats would get as the Patriots went into the
half leading, 31-21.
The scoring teetered back and forth in the second half until the
twelve minute mark when the Patriots opened up the lead to 19
points, 54-35. The Bobcats would inch closer but they could never
cut the deficit to less than 10.
Second chance points were the story of the evening as the
Bobcats were outscored 19-4. The Bobcats were No. 3 in the nation
in defensive field goal percentage but uncharacteristically let the
Patriots shoot 42 percent (26-62) from the floor.
GC did shoot 38 percent (19-50) from the field but had a
significantly lower amount of opportunities than Francis Marion.
The Bobcats lost the rebounding battle 41-28 and the turnover
battle 24-18.
The Bobcats look to get back to their winning ways Sunday, Jan.
30 at 1:30 p.m. as they travel to UNC Pembroke (8-10, 4-6 PBC). The
Braves are on a two-game win streak, most recently beating the
University of Montevallo 67-53 tonight.
