GC Soccer Blanks Newberry, 1-0

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College soccer (7-7-1) defensive effort was more than stingy Thursday night, as the Bobcats held Newberry College (5-7-3) without a single shot in a 1-0 victory at Bobcat Field.

The GC goal came just 13:01 into the second half, a well-handled strike from freshman Ally Barys (Ladera Ranch, Calif.).

Senior Olivia Holden (Fishers, Ind.) dribbled to the right corner, knocking a cross to sophomore Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.). With her back to the goal, Dalton one-touched the ball along to Barys, who took a measuring touch then fired to the left side of the net for her fourth goal in the last three games.

An impressive defensive effort was put forth from the whole team, led by senior Jamie Colcord (Marietta, Ga.), Holden, Anna Barrow (St. Simons, Ga.) and sophomore Rebekah Autry (Winder, Ga.), each player logging the full 90 minutes.

Sophomore Taylor Cornelius (Dacula, Ga.) was the beneficiary of the brick-wall defensive line, recording her first shutout of the season. Newberry's Morgan Cox made 10 saves in the loss.

Dalton's career total of eight assists puts her at ninth in the GC career recordbooks. GC winds up the non-conference portion of the season, going 5-2.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. eastern, traveling to the University of Montevallo.
