MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.
– Freshman Shanteona Keys
(Roswell, Ga.) poured in 19 points, but it was not enough
as the Georgia College women's basketball team (4-15, 2-8 PBC)
dropped a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) affair to the University of
Montevallo (8-11, 3-7 PBC) 61-47 Wednesday night at the Centennial
Center.
The Bobcats whittled the Falcon
lead to just six, 41-35, with 8:35 remaining in the game but a
quick 8-0 run would end the GC threat. Montevallo would seal the
game at the free-throw line with an 8-for-9 (89 percent) showing in
the second frame.
Keys scored her game-high 19 on
6-of-12 (.500) shooting from the field and 6-of-9 shooting from the
charity-stripe, while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out a pair
of assists.
The Bobcats received a great
effort from sophomore forward Krysta Lewis
(Woodstock, Ga.), who scored 12 on 4-of-10 (.400)
shooting, going 2-of-3 from three-point land.
Helping on the glass was
freshman Belinda
Schaafsma (Momence, Ill.), who grabbed a team-high
nine boards after leading the team with 10 against Lander
University Saturday afternoon.
Fellow freshman Hollyn Phelps
(Alpharetta, Ga.) enjoyed the best game of her young
tenure notching a career-best six points on 3-of-4
shooting.
Montevallo controlled nearly all
facets of the game shooting 23-of-56 (.411) from the floor compared
to 17-of-44 (.386) from Georgia College. The Bobcats also lost the
turnover battle 21-14, while being outrebounded by the Falcons
36-28.
Montevallo would place three
scorers in double-figures, Taylor Beverly leading the way with
18. Tiffany McClure would tally 14 points of her own, as Zena
Nasiloski earned herself a double-double with 10 points and 10
rebounds.

their six-game home stand taking on Georgia Southwestern State
University Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1:30 p.m.
