AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia College
women's basketball team (4-21, 2-14 PBC) fell in a hard-fought
overtime battle against the Georgia Southwestern State University
Hurricanes (18-7, 10-6 PBC) Wednesday night, 91-85.
The Bobcats had their second-largest offensive outbreak of the
season with three players scoring 20-plus points. The first half
was back-and-forth before Krysta Lewis
(Woodstock, Ga.) hit back-to-back threes to put the
Bobcats ahead 18-12. After inching their way back, the Hurricanes
found themselves down 41-40 at the half. Lewis finished with a
career-high 22 points on 9-of-22 (.409) shooting from the field,
4-of-8 (.500) from three. She chipped in seven boards, two assists
and one steal.
A second half full of scoring found the Bobcats up with four
seconds left, 79-76 after a made free throw by freshman Shanteona
Keys (Roswell, Ga.). Terra Branch was the hero of the
night, hitting a three-point buzzer-beater as time expired to send
the game into overtime, where the Hurricanes eventually grabbed the
victory.
Keys finished the game with a career-high 28 points on 7-of-16
(.438) shooting. She also contributed five rebounds, four assists
and a steal to the effort. Enisha Donley
(Loganville, Ga.) also eclipsed her career-high with 22
points on 9-of-18 (.500) from the field, grabbing five boards and
three steals. Branch finished with 24 points, six rebounds and
eight assists.
The Bobcats shot 31-of-69 (.449) from the floor and 6-of-15
(.400) from beyond the arc. The Hurricanes went 32-of-70 (.457)
shooting, including 7-of-17 (.412) from three point land. The
Bobcats lost the rebounding battle 44-37 but won the turnover war
20-17.
The Bobcats finish up their season traveling to No. 4 Clayton
State University Saturday, Feb. 25 set for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
