FLORENCE, S.C.
– The No. 14 Georgia College men's tennis
squad (3-4, 0-3 PBC) ran into a tough No. 13 Francis Marion
University team (6-1, 3-1 PBC), dropping their Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) match 6-3 Sunday afternoon at the Kassab
Courts.
Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) picked up
a win for the Bobcats at the No. 2 singles slot, taking down Jack
Bishop in comeback fashion 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
GC also picked up victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, with
Kasper Konyves (Helsingborg, Sweden) and
Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) taking care of
their matches in straight-sets, respectively.
Konyves defeated Jonathan Hain 6-2, 6-4, while Schubert won over
Luke Bateup by a score of 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Unfortunately the doubles portion of the match wasn't as
friendly for the 'Cats, as they dropped all three
matches.
The nationally-ranked No. 14 tandem of Jerome Leborgne
(Coordimanche, France) and Wadstein fell to No. 19 Alex
Caspari and Gavin Davdison 8-4. Caspari also went on to defeat
Leborgne 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles slot.
At No. 3 doubles, Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga,
Sweden) and Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo,
Brazil) went the distance against Dirk Bair and Tim
Ruepke, eventually dropping a heartbreaker 9-8 (7-4).
Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) and Konyves
dropped their match at No. 2 doubles to Bishop and Hain
8-6.
Rounding out the scoring for the Patriots were Bair and Davison,
who defeated Franks and Bernardes 7-5, 3-0 (ret.) and 6-1, 6-1,
respectively.
