GC Men's Tennis Advances at PBC Tourney, 5-3 Win over FMU

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Junior Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) had the match-clinching win at fifth singles, completing the 5-3 victory for No. 5-seed Georgia College men's tennis (11-7) over No. 4-seed Francis Marion University (10-6).

The Bobcats advance to face No. 1-seed Armstrong tomorrow, April 20 at 2 p.m.

GC made a clean sweep of doubles action to jump out to a 3-0 lead. No. 9 Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) and Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) upset No. 5 Alex Caspari and Gavin Davison in a battle of All-PBC First Team duos. The 8-5 victory improved GC's squad to 13-5 on the season.

Andersson and Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) beat Jack Bishop and Jonathan Hain 8-5 in the second slot, improving to 12-6 on the year. Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) and Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) teamed for the first time this season, adding an 8-6 win at the third slot over Dirk Bair and Tim Ruepke.

In singles action, No. 13 Caspari edged No. 24 and All-PBC Second Teamer Leborgne in a ranked battle 6-4, 6-2, and Hain beat Schubert 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth slot. The third victory for FMU came in sixth singles, as Bair beat Franks 6-3, 7-5.

All-PBC Second Team pick Wadstein cleaned out Bishop 6-3, 6-2 to make it four wins for GC, setting up Andersson's 6-3, 6-3 match-clincher over Ruepke. Wadstein is now a team-high 13-5 on the year, while Andersson boasts a 7-1 singles mark.
