VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 16 Georgia College men's tennis team (2-0) continued their strong start to the season with a 6-3 upset victory at No. 13 Valdosta State University (0-2) Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) and junior Andreas Ainalides (Huesenstamm, Germany) came up short in their doubles match, losing 8-6 to Konstantin Kutschenko and Mario Navarro in first doubles.

In the second doubles slot, senior Wictor Andersson (Kalskoga, Sweden) paired with freshman Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) but the duo would fall 8-5 to Tammo Haake and Sebastian Jasyk.

Freshman Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) and junior Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) put the Bobcats on the scoreboard with an 8-5 victory over Joachim Schemm and Andrew Harvin.

The Bobcats went into singles play down 2-1, but that would quickly change. Andersson played in the fifth position but finished first and evened the score for the Bobcats, coming away with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Haake. Hass followed him shortly after in the fourth position with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Jasyk.

Powell, playing in the sixth position, made quick work of Harvin 6-0, 6-3, to give the Bobcats a 4-2 lead. Ainalides played in the second spot and won a close match against Navarro 7-5, 6-3 to clinch the victory for the Bobcats.

National No. 47 Wadstein played against National No. 11 Kutschenko. Wadstein would battle but fall 6-1, 7-5. Schubert won his singles match in the third position 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 over Schemm.

The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 9 when they take on No. 11 Saint Leo University for a neutral site match in Savannah, Ga.
