Barsby Picks up 400th Win as #18 Bobcat Men Maul Mountain Lions, 8-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The No. 18 Georgia College men's tennis team (9-3, 3-2 PBC) won its fifth consecutive match Thursday, taking down Young Harris College (6-2, 2-2 PBC) for GC head coach Steve Barsby's 400th career victory.

The Bobcats started off with a sweep of doubles action.

Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) and Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) teamed for an 8-3 win in the first slot over Joan Valls and Guilherme Frias.

Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) and Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) improved to a team-best 11-1 with a win over Gabriel Oliveira and Martin Harach 8-3 in the second slot.

In third doubles, Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) and Andreas Ainalides (Heusenstamm, Germany) paired up to make short work of Tom Gibaud and Sebastian Dartnell, 8-2.

Andersson kept the roll going with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Brecht Vangrinsven in the sixth slot, Andersson improving to 8-4. The team win was clinched by Schubert in fourth singles, downing Harach 6-1, 6-3.

Ainalides nabbed his team-leading ninth singles win with a 6-4, 6-2 effort over Oliveira in second singles. National No. 47 Wadstein beat Valls 6-2, 6-3 in the first slot, leading into a win for Mattia Campus (Rome, Italy) in a fifth-spot marathon over Gibaud, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9).

The lone singles loss came at No. 3, as Haas was tripped up by Frias in a long bout, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5).

Now in his 13th year with Georgia College after two seasons at his alma mater Troy State University, Barsby owns 400 career victories, 208 in women's tennis and 192 on the men's side. Of the 400 wins, 363 have come at the helm of the Bobcat program.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 15 at 1:30 p.m., traveling to the University of North Georgia (4-5, 1-5 PBC).
