GC Baseball Drops Doubleheader, Series to Francis Marion, 15-6 and 12-8

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team (14-9, 7-5 PBC) lost two games to Francis Marion University (12-8, 7-5 PBC) 15-6 and 12-8 Saturday, as the Patriots took the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series from the Bobcats 2-1.

The Patriots led throughout game one after a five-run third.

Georgia College pulled within one at 5-4 after the fourth, again making it tight at 10-6 in the seventh, but each time the Patriots responded with multi-run innings to push it back out of reach.

Designated hitter Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) was 3-for-3 with two runs, while Jeremy Donaldson (Winder, Ga.), Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) and Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) each posted two hits. Rightfielder Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) added a three-run home run.

Gary Ashcroft (3-2) picked up the win in five innings of work, with John Rossi getting a four-inning save. Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) took the loss (3-2) in a four-inning outing. Michael Wilson and Jacob Golliday each hit home runs for FMU, Golliday finishing 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.

Game two was an extra-inning affair, with FMU picking up four runs in the top of the 10th to seal the win. The Patriots had a three-run ninth to tie the game as well.

For the Bobcats, Donaldson went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, while Sandlin added another three-run shot among his 2-for-4 effort, driving in three and scoring one. Sabalaskey added two more hits in three trips, scoring one and driving in a pair. Bick and Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) chipped in to the offensive effort with two hits apiece.

Rossi (2-1) got the win in game two, tossing two scoreless innings. Bobcat reliever Christian Bragg (Augusta, Ga.) took the loss (1-1). Will Chandler hit two home runs as part of his 3-for-6 effort, driving in five and scoring four.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 19 at 3 p.m., hosting North Greenville University in non-conference action.
