#18 Women's Tennis Upset by Montevallo, 5-4

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 18 Georgia College women's tennis team (3-4, 2-3 PBC) played amidst snow flurries against the University of Montevallo (4-3, 1-2 PBC) Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats held an early lead, but could not maintain it falling 5-4.

Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) and Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) played in the No. 1 doubles slot matched up against Niki Polcerlova and Anais Robert. The Bobcat duo came away with the 8-5 win.

Senior May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) were slotted in as the No. 2 doubles team. Playing together for the first time this year, they came away with the 8-5 win over Allison Howell and Haley Highfield.

Newcomers Sarah Murray (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) paired together for the No. 3 slot and came up short against Luaren Blair and Juanita Ossa, 8-1.

The Bobcats took the 2-1 lead into singles play with Marevic taking on Polcerova in the No. 1 singles slot, Marevic losing 6-1, 6-2.

Johnson, playing in the No. 2, took on Howell. Johnson made quick work of Howell, with the 6-1, 6-1 win. Fellow senior Barksdale also came away with a quick win at the No. 3 slot, 6-2, 6-2.

Krupp took on Robert, played close in the first set, but eventually lost 6-4, 6-2. Murray, playing in her second collegiate match, lost to Ossa 6-0, 6-1. Ekstrom, playing in her first collegiate match lost to Blair 6-0, 6-0.

The Bobcats are back in action Monday, March 4 at 11:30 a.m. when they take on No. 16 Florida Tech in a neutral site match in Hilton Head, S.C.
