#25 GC Baseball Knocks Lincoln Memorial Out of NCAA Regional, 12-0

Box Score

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The No. 25 Georgia College (34-18) baseball team pounded out 17 hits and 12 runs to oust Lincoln Memorial University (26-26) from the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament at Mount Olive College.

The No. 5-seed Bobcats eliminate the No. 6-seed Railsplitters, and advance further through the loser's bracket to play another game Saturday, May 18 at 3 p.m., the opponent to be determined by today's action.

While the bats were impressive, it was lefty starter John Clark (Duluth, Ga.) that threw eight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a pair of walks while fanning five. Clark (6-1) came three outs from his second-straight complete game in the postseason. Junior Daniel Szathmary (Suwanee, Ga.) got the final three outs to complete the shutout.

After two scoreless innings, the Bobcat bats busted things open in the third, as first baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) plated the first run on a single to center. After an out, catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) ripped a pitch off the base of the scoreboard in right center for a three-run home run. An RBI single from rightfielder Mikee Moore (Dunwoody, Ga.) would cap the inning.

Georgia College scored three more in the fourth on another RBI single by Ardeeser followed by a pair of sacrifice flies. An RBI single from Ikaika Anderson (Austell, Ga.) stretched the lead to 9-0 in the fifth before a big three-run sixth pushed it further out of reach. The Bobcats killed the Railsplitters with singles in that inning as well, with Moore, Anderson and leftfielder Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) all bringing in runs on one-base hits.

Hazel finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, while Sandlin also added three hits in four trips, the one RBI and two runs scored. Shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) was 2-for-4 with two runs, and Ardeeser matched those numbers, adding a pair of RBI as well.

Third baseman Jeremy Donaldson (Winder, Ga.) was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Anderson finished 2-for-4 as well, driving in two runs on those singles.

The 1-2-3 hitters in the Georgia College order (Sandlin, Bick and Ardeeser) combined to go 7-for-12 with three RBI and six runs scored. Each slot in the Bobcat order, save one, tallied at least one hit.

Railsplitter starter Logan Sawyer fell to 3-6, unable to escape that third inning. Clark scattered the three hits among three different LMU hitters, all three safeties going for doubles.

The Bobcats play in another elimination game Saturday, May 18 at 3 p.m.
