COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Georgia College women's soccer team (2-6-1, 0-4 PBC) could not overcome Peach Belt Conference (PBC) front-runner No. 6 Columbus State University (7-0-1, 3-0 PBC) Wednesday, Oct. 1. After a scoreless first half the Bobcats were outmatched 5-0.
The Bobcats began and ended today's match very similar to their match against No. 16 University of North Georgia. Georgia College is one of just three teams this season to keep Columbus State from scoring in the first half. Knotted at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play, the Cougars went on a strong offensive run. Senior Annie Stephens (Fayetteville) had a tough order to fill, with eight shots on goal, she pulled in three saves.
The second half started off with as much intensity as the first. But after 10 minutes of play, Chelsea Person netted an unassisted line drive for the first goal of the match and her fifth of the season. The second goal of the match was scored just a minute later by Courtney Jacquay for her first goal of the season. The third and fourth goals were scored by Mandy Janowitz and Shauna Griffin. The final goal was put in the back of the net by Janowitz again in the 88th minute.
The Bobcats will be back in action at home against Clayton State University Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m.
