by Mark Jagord, sports information assistant

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 11 Georgia College men's tennis team (1-1) got off to a good start at No. 27 Valdosta State University (1-2) Saturday afternoon before dropping a 6-3 match for their first loss this season at the Blazer Tennis Courts. The Bobcats fell behind in doubles play 2-1, but got a victory from the first completed singles play at No. 5 to tie the match at two apiece.

Senior Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) and sophomore Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) won at first doubles against Francisco Yim Kim and Mario Navarro Bayo, 8-6. The Bobcat second doubles team of sophomore Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) and freshman Anton Waern (Taby, Sweeden) dropped an 8-5 decision to the No. 11 doubles pair of Sebastian Jasyk and Tammo Haake. The Blazers took an edge into singles play by winning at third doubles, 8-2. Georgia College freshman Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Ga.) paired with sophomore Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) for No. 3 doubles play.

The pair redeemed themselves as the only two Bobcats to win in singles play. Campus defeated Haake in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-0. Kinsler disposed of Andrew Harvin, 6-2 and 7-5.

Regionally-ranked No. 16 Hass, although victorious in doubles, couldn't get by Yim Kim in first singles dropping two sets, 6-3 and 6-1. Schubert fell at second singles to Bayo, 6-3, 6-2.

Waern lost to Gereon Heitmann in third singles 6-1, 6-3; while Powell split the first two sets before losing the third, 6-4 in fourth singles to Jasyk.

The men's tennis team travels to No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic State University Wednesday for a 1 p.m. start.
