FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Georgia College softball team (15-3) extended its current winning streak to six Saturday, sweeping Nova Southeastern by scores of 4-2 and 2-0. This is the Bobcats' second winning streak of at least six games this season.
The Bobcats would have to come from behind in game one, trailing 2-0 after four innings. The deficit was no problem, as the 'Cats scored three runs in the fifth and added another in the seventh for a 4-2 victory.
After a groundout to lead off the fifth, the Bobcats put two runners on by way of a hit by pitch and a single, bringing junior Kristen Brooks (Brunswick) to the dish. Brooks singled down the left field line, plating Baylee Hall (Hephzibah) who was hit by the pitch to get the rally started. Following another groundout, junior Abi LeRoy (Dublin) would come through with a two-out RBI single, scoring Emily Robertson (Dacula) who pinch ran earlier in the inning. Brooks would also score on the play on an error to give Georgia College the 3-2 lead.
LeRoy notched her second RBI single of the contest in the seventh inning, this time plating sophomore Faith Flanders (Dublin) for a 4-2 lead. LeRoy would finish the game 2-for-4 with two RBI. Flanders was 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Those four runs would be all junior pitcher Marisa Boyette (Marietta) would need as she threw yet another complete game, her ninth to begin the 2015 season. She allowed two runs on nine hits, while striking out five and improving her record to 9-0.
The second game of the day was another low-scoring affair, with pitcher Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) stealing the show. Lewis tossed a complete game shutout, her second of the year. The sophomore gave up six hits and struck out four Shark batters.
Georgia College scored a run a piece in the fourth and seventh innings to secure the 2-0 win. Robertson singled in junior Lacey Najafi (Suwanee) in the fourth and freshman Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) plated Frankie Walls (Dahlonega) in the seventh on a double to right center.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 25 as they continue their road trip, this time to Columbus State University, a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
