FLORENCE, S.C. – The No. 20 Georgia College men's tennis team (13-7) made short work of Young Harris College (13-8) en route to a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Quarterfinal victory Friday at Francis Marion University.
The win moves the No. 3-seed Bobcats to the semifinal round, taking on No. 2-seed Lander University tomorrow, April 25 at 8 a.m.
The Bobcats swept doubles. The No. 23 pairing of Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) and Vincent Castermans (Grenoble, France) got past Sebastian Edin and William Edin in a tough 8-4 battle.
Second doubles brought an 8-2 victory for Taylor Powell (Evans, Georgia) and Jannik Kumbier (Neumunster, Germany), as the Bobcat pair beat Guilherme Frias and Daniel Tiboldi. Both the first and second doubles pairs for Georgia College are now 10-9 on the year.
In third doubles, Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) and Pedro Ecenarro (Santiago de Compostella, Spain) ran their record to 11-6 with a win over Raul Quevedo and Brecht Vangrinsven, 8-1.
The first singles result came in the second slot, as Castermans nearly shut out Frias, 6-2, 6-0. Castermans gets up over .500 with the win at 9-8, his third-straight victory.
Powell clinched the team win in sixth singles by the same score, topping William Edin. The Bobcat junior is now 11-2 with seven straight wins.
The Bobcats and Bearcats square off tomorrow, April 25 in PBC Semifinal play at 8 a.m.
