MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – In a scorching Middle Georgia day, the Georgia College softball (47-9) team's bats were also hot, rattling off 14 hits for 12 runs in a 12-4 win in the NCAA Southeast Regional #2 Championship game over Armstrong State University (32-16).

The No. 2-seed Bobcats will advance to take on No. 1-seed University of North Georgia in that Southeast Super Regional starting Friday, May 15. The Bobcats have two Regional Titles in school history, coming in 2003 and 2006, both before the Super Regional format change.

The Bobcats wasted little time, getting a single through the right side from leadoff hitter Abi LeRoy (Dublin). Georgia College plated three runs in the first on four hits, including RBI singles from Kristen Brooks (Brunswick) and Lacey Najafi (Suwanee).

The Bobcats busted the game open with an eight-run third, the capper coming on a three-run blast from Najafi to left. The home run was her ninth of the season.

Armstrong staved off run-rule by scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth, getting three on a double from Jane Trzaska, but Georgia College got another on a wild pitch in the sixth, and three outs in the bottom half to finish off the win.

Righty Marisa Boyette (Marietta) improved to 24-5 with the six innings of work, surrendering three earned runs on five hits and three walks. She struck out five. Armstrong starter Tori Bates (3-2) lasted just that three-run first.

Najafi was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. LeRoy also finished 2-for-4, plating two and scoring another pair. Each of the nine slots in the Bobcat batting order had a least one hit and all nine also scored at least one run.

Pirate shortstop Alexis Mercer had two singles in three trips, scoring once and tallying an RBI.

The schedule for the Southeast Super Regional starts with a single game Friday, May 15 at 5 p.m., followed by doubleheader action Saturday, May 16 at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
