COLUMBUS, GA – The Georgia College Soccer Team's (7-8-1, 4-8 PBC) season came to a close Saturday afternoon after falling to Peach Belt Conference (PBC) powerhouse National No. 5 Columbus State University (15-2, 11-1 PBC), 8-0.
Georgia College was in need of a win Saturday to clinch a spot in the PBC Tournament, but was unable to break through the region's top-rated defense. The Cougars did not allow a goal and held the Bobcats to three shots throughout the match.
The Bobcat defense had their hands full with one of the best offensive fronts in the country, having allowed four goals through 32 minutes. A pair of first half goals from both Nicole Corcione and Olivia Jarrell gave Columbus a 4-0 advantage heading in to half time.
Georgia College did not have an answer for the first place Cougars after the break. Columbus State tallied four more second half goals from Taylor Marks, Angelica Tabares, Delaney Borrer and another from Olivia Jarrell who earned a hat trick in Saturday's Contest. The 2015 National runner-up Columbus State has now outscored their opponents by a whopping 76-8 margin in the 2016 season.
Georgia College needed a big win today to advance to the postseason, but unfortunately they ran into buzz saw Columbus State who clinched the 2016 PBC Regular-Season title with Saturdays win.
The Bobcats' season has come to a close in the loss, a year featuring seven victories and 12 selections to the PBC All-Academic Team. Each of the Bobcats' seven wins came via the shutout.
