GC Women's Hoops Drops Overtime Battle, 65-62

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The school's first overtime contest of the 2016-17 season brought a loss for Georgia College Women's Basketball (4-1) 65-62 to Tuskegee University (3-5) Wednesday at the Centennial Center. The loss breaks a four-game win streak for the Bobcats.

The Golden Tigers had a flair for the dramatic Wednesday, with Cheyanne Williams hitting a game-tying shot to send it to overtime as time expired, and Taylor Miller draining a three-pointer with seven ticks left in overtime for the win.

"I thought Tuskegee did a phenomenal job," said head coach Maurice Smith. "Their pressure really bothered us. Hats off to Tuskegee, I thought they executed down the stretch."

The Bobcats started slow, not reaching the scoring column until the 5:09 mark in the first quarter, after digging an early 7-0 hole. After trailing 32-27 at half, a big 20-13 third quarter got the GC Women back in the game. The five-minute overtime period was a defensive one, as Tuskegee took the extra period 5-2.

The Bobcats got three scorers in double figures, led by junior Alyah McGriff (Suwanee) at 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Senior Veronica Ryan (Clearwater, Florida) tallied 12 points after knocking down a pair of threes, adding a team-best four assists.

Rounding out the double-digit efforts was Lindsey Reed (Stockbridge) at 11 points and seven boards. Sophomore Ana Anderson (Sharpsburg) nearly joined the party with nine points and eight rebounds.

The two teams each shot 34 percent from the field, Georgia College going 22-for-65 and Tuskegee 23-for-67. The Golden Tigers had an 18-11 advantage in points off turnovers, while the Bobcats dominated points in the paint 28-18.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m., playing host to Albany State University. Georgia College topped the Golden Rams on the road 45-44 Nov. 22.
