Bobcat Men Walk over North Georgia, 95-59; Harris Eclipses 1,500 Points

Box Score

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Getting 31 points from Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) the Georgia College Men's Basketball team (17-8, 10-6 PBC) beat up on the University of North Georgia (5-20, 3-13 PBC) 95-59 Saturday on the road. In the game, Harris became just the fourth GC Men's Basketball player to surpass 1,500 career points.

Harris hit 11-of-12 shots from the field, 1-for-2 from long range and all eight of his free-throw attempts for the fifth 30-point game of his career.

Senior Rio McMillian (Chicago Heights, Illinois) tallied a career-best 17 points, knocking down three from behind the arc as well. Freshman Isaac Thomas (Trion) added 13 points and nine rebounds, while senior Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) had 10 points and four assists, his 13th straight double-digit scoring game. Junior Kelvin Nwanze (Lagos, Nigeria/Archer (Ga.)) hit 5-for-7 from the field, and finished with 10 points, a season best.

The Bobcats hit 55 percent from the floor (36-66), adding stifling defense that held UNG to just 37 percent (18-49) shooting.

The Nighthawks last tied the game at 24-24 with eight minutes left in the first half. The Bobcats responded with a 12-2 run, causing two turnovers and a missed shot, while making five straight on the offensive end.

The 95 points are the most scored by the Bobcats this season, and the most in a single games since a 100-98 loss to Albany State University Nov. 15, 2013.

Harris' 31 points gives the senior 1,520 in his career, passing Jerry Scott (1977-81) for third in school history. Harris' 597 points this season puts him above Ronnie Sims' 1982-83 season effort of 569 for fifth in the school's record books. Adding in Harris' freshman season at Mars Hill University, he now has 2,038 points in his collegiate career.

The win puts the Bobcats at 10-6 in conference play, good for fourth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) West Divison. The top four advance to the PBC Tournament Feb. 27, and the Bobcats own fourth by a single game over Clayton State University.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m., hosting Clayton for Senior Day.

With the loss, the Bobcats move to 16-9 overall and 8-8 in PBC play. The Bobcats and Nighthawks are now tied for third in the west division of the PBC standings with three games remaining. With a win or a Georgia Southwestern State University loss in any of the remaining games, the Bobcats will clinch a spot in the PBC Tournament. The next contest for the Bobcats is in Milledgeville Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. against Clayton State University as the Lakers come to the Centennial Center on Senior Day.
