COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Bobcat's second day of the Cougar Classic Tournament started with the Bobcats taking on the Tuskegee University Golden Lions. Georgia College ended the game early by run rule in inning six, 12-4.
The Golden Lions began the game fast, setting up an early lead with three runs in the first inning. Baylee Hall (Hephizibah) got the initial run for the Bobcats, scoring on a wild pitch. Following a scoreless second inning, both teams added a single run. In the fourth inning, a double from Hannah Coursey (Sugar Hill) sent her sister Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) across the plate, closing Tuskegee's lead.
After another scoreless inning, it looked like Tuskegee would hold their close lead. However, Georgia College rallied in the sixth inning to maintain their winning streak. The Bobcats immediately put runners on bases before getting them back home with deftly placed singles and doubles. Even though the Bobcats were in the lead, the team did not relent. Faith Flanders (Dublin) added three runs to the board when a home run sent her around the bases. A home run by Lacey Najafi (Suwanee) wrapped up the game early for another win for Georgia College, 12-4.
Flanders led the team in RBIs with four during the contest. Teammates Hannah Coursey and Abi LeRoy (Dublin) each finished the night with a pair of their own. Hannah Coursey was the only Bobcat to get to second base on a hit, and did it twice against Tuskegee. Her sister Holland Coursey ended the contest with a pair of stolen bases.
Starting pitcher Flanders tossed a scoreless second inning during the three innings she stayed on the mound. Reliever Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) achieved four strikeouts in the bottom three innings, pitching two scoreless innings. She only gave up one hit to the Golden Lions.
The Bobcats continue to play in Columbus facing off with Bellarmine University tomorrow, Feb. 14, at 12 p.m. Georgia College Softball also plays against Lincoln Memorial University at 2:30 p.m.
