Box Score GREENWOOD, S.C. – Senior guard Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) nearly broke two school records in one night, but the Georgia College Men's Basketball team (18-10, 11-8 PBC) fell short at Lander University (19-9, 12-6 PBC) 91-84 Wednesday.
Harris' amazing senior year continued tonight, as with his ninth point of the ballgame on a jumper with 4:25 left in the first, he snapped the single-season scoring record in Georgia College history. The points gave him 655 on the year, besting the previous mark of 653 owned by both Tim Jones in the 1995-96 season and Jerome Shelton in 1989-90.
Harris' 39-point total for the game came just four shy of the school record set in 1977-78 by GC Hall of Famer Leonard Scott against Piedmont. The 39 points does tie the NCAA-era record, set by Jake Rios against Carver Bible in 2009-10.
Harris was 12-for-20 from the field and 11-for-13 from the line, also adding a team-best seven rebounds.
Three other Bobcats joined Harris in double-digit scoring, led by senior Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) at 15 points. He hit 3-for-6 from long range, extending his double-digit scoring streak out to 16 straight games. Freshman Chaz Berry (Alpharetta, Georgia) added 12 points, with Mark McCorkle (Cumming, Georgia) leading the bench brigade with the same number. McCorkle hit 4-for-6 from downtown.
For the second straight game, the Bobcats surrendered a shooting percentage over 50, out of character for the Peach Belt Conference's (PBC) second-best defensive team in the category. Lander hit for 52 percent (33-64) from the field, while Georgia College managed 48 percent (29-60). The Bearcats also had a plus-10 rebounding advantage of 39-29. The Bobcats kept it close by knocking down nine more three-point baskets (13-4).
The Bobcats will get an immediate chance at revenge, as the PBC Tournament begins Saturday, Feb. 27. The No. 4-seed Bobcats will travel to No. 1-seed Lander for PBC Quarterfinal action this weekend.
