Box Score GREENWOOD, S.C. – A halftime lead couldn't hold up, as the West No. 4-seed Georgia College Men's Basketball team (18-11) dropped an 83-77 decision at East No. 1-seed Lander University (20-9) in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Quarterfinal Saturday.
The Bobcats shot an amazing 53 percent (27-51) from the field for the game but couldn't overcome a 42-17 gap in rebounding. Lander used second and third-chance points to get back in the game, eventually closing it out at the free-throw line, hitting 27-of-30 tries for 90 percent from that location.
Senior Terrell Harris (Indiantown, Florida) finished his career with a 28-point game, hitting 10-for-16 from the field, adding six steals, five assists and four rebounds. Classmate Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) did a great job running the point, adding seven assists to his 17 points. Rookie Chaz Berry (Alpharetta, Georgia) posted a career-best 20 points, knocking down four from long range.
Harris finishes his career third in career scoring and first in single-season scoring in Georgia College history. His senior season will go down as one of the best in the PBC recordbooks as well, finishing with 713 points on the year, good for fourth in the conference recordbooks.
The Bobcats' blistering pace of 61 percent shooting in the first half (17-28) cooled off a bit in the second as they managed 44 percent from the field (10-23). Lander hit 20 of its 27 free throws after the halftime break.
The loss brings a close to an 18-11 season for GC Men's Basketball, a year that saw an incredible nine-win turnaround from last season. The Bobcats took a position in the PBC Tournament for the first time since the 2011-12 season. The defeat brings a close to the season for four outstanding seniors in Anderson, Ryan Blumenthal (Acworth, Georgia), Harris and Rio McMillian (Chicago Heights, Illinois).
