#21 Georgia College Women's Tennis Sweeps Coker, 9-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.  – The No. 21 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (5-4) defended their home court in impressive fashion, sweeping Coker College (1-6) in non-conference action Wednesday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

The Bobcat women jumped on the Cobras early, notching wins in each of the three doubles matches.

Playing in the first slot for the first time this season, Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) and Katie Krupp (Cumming) excelled, defeating Jennifer Mezei and Bailey Palmer by a score of 8-1. Right behind them, the pairing of Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bordeaux, France) and Macy Polk (Powder Springs) blazed to an 8-3 victory over Sarah Elliot and Jessi Campos.

Closing out the doubles sweep, Kristen Jones (Marietta) and Emma Niemi (Cumming) extended the Georgia College lead to 3-0 by making short work of Suzanna Mickey and Ragan Palmer, 8-1.

The Bobcats kept their foot on the pedal in each of their singles contests, closing out the day by winning all six.

Kelly finished first in the third-slot, surrendering just a single point and defeating Ragan Palmer 6-1, 6-0.

Clausse-Pujo sealed the team victory, winning the Bobcats fifth match of the day. The Georgia College senior shut out Mezei in the first set, 6-0 and then fought off resistance to close out the match with a 6-4 victory in the second.

Playing in the fourth slot, Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs) also dealt in a close second set against Campos, but secured the 6-1, 6-4 win. Sister Macy Polk picked up a victory of her own, downing Bailey Palmer 6-3, 7-5 in the second slot.

Krupp and Niemi rounded out the day and finalized the sweep, as they each picked up decisive victories. Krupp got the better of Jenna Gainey in the sixth-slot, 6-1, 6-3 and Niemi picked up her team-leading sixth singles victory with a 6-1, 6-2 result over Mickey in the fifth slot.

With the result, the Georgia College women pick up their fifth win on the season. They will look to pick up their second win in a row when they travel to Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponent No. 36 Augusta University Friday, March 4 at noon.
