MONTEVALLO, Ala. –Georgia College Baseball (13-12, 7-8 PBC) and the University of Montevallo (16-13, 9-6 PBC) wrapped up the three-game weekend series Sunday with a Bobcat win. The Bobcats recovered from yesterday's two road losses and, through a combination of powerful hitting and deft pitching, left Alabama with an 8-1 victory.

Following four quiet innings, the Bobcats faced two outs at the top of the fifth and it seemed like to they would be unable to add any runs during this at-bat. When centerfielder Logan Mattix (Loganville, Georgia) stepped up to the plate, he jumpstarted the scoreless game by sending the ball over the fence for the first run of the inning. Immediately following Mattix in the lineup, Dylan Cook (Portola Valley, California) followed his example by cracking his own home run to leftfield. After a single from Brandon Purcell (Glennville, Georiga), first baseman Tanner Giesel (Naperville, Illinois) added a third home run for the Bobcats in the fifth, and two more runs to the score, all with two outs.

Montevallo tried to recover from the Bobcats' phenomenal fifth, but only brought in a single run. Georgia College used the sixth inning to extend its lead even further, starting with a double from freshman Wesley Wommack (Monroe, Georiga) that sent a teammate home to score. Second baseman Cook then brought in the final three runs of game with his second home run of the contest. Both teams displayed rock-solid defenses for the final three innings with neither team bringing in a run and the Bobcats boarded the bus with a win, 8-1.

The entirety of the game's scoring came in the fifth and sixth innings where the Bobcats showed a potent offense. Cook led the team in RBIs with all four coming from his two home runs. Giesel and Mattix each had a single home run; Giesel had two RBIs from his while Mattix had one. Wommack's RBI came from the only double in the game.

Georgia College's pitching kept the Falcons locked down today, giving up only four hits across thirty at-bats. Today's win went to starting pitcher Trevor Guthrie (Cumming, Georgia) who took the mound for just over five innings for his sixth appearance this season. He gave up only a single hit while racking up four strikeouts against Montevallo. Reliever Cameron Busby (Grovetown, Georgia) closed the game, pitching the final three and two-thirds innings. In that time, he struck out two Falcons and only allowed a single hit.

The Bobcats will remain on the road for their next game where they take on Newberry College in South Carolina. The non-conference matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, March 22, with the first pitch to be thrown at 6 p.m.
