Box Score 2 RALEIGH N.C. – Georgia College Softball (17-4, 3-1 PBC) split games in its first day of the Shaw University Softball Challenge with a win against Benedict College (2-8, 1-2 SIAC) and a loss to Wayne State University (5-1, 0-0 GLIAC) 9-0 and 4-1.
The Bobcats dominated in game one today in Raleigh closing out the Benedict College Tigers in five innings thanks to first baseman player Faith Flanders (Dublin, Georgia) bashing two three-run home runs.
Abi Leroy (Dublin, Georgia) was the first Bobcat to tally the scoreboard after stealing home off a sacrifice play by Holland Coursey (Powder Springs, Georgia) in the second inning of the game. In the bottom of the third, first base player Flanders logger her first bomb of the match bringing Baylee Hall (Hephzibah, Georgia) and Jessica Hayles (Gordon, Georgia) around the bags to score as well.
In the fourth inning LeRoy catburglered home again off of a Hayles hit. LeRoy was walked in the lead off spot and ended up in scoring position off a single from Caroline Snider (Tennile, Georgia). Snider came around the bags for the second Bobcat score of the inning on a RBI single from Coursey.
Georgia College sealed the deal in the fifth after Flanders smashed her second home run of the night scoring Julia Tindall (Brunswick, Georgia) and Kristen Brooks (Brunswick, Georgia).
The Bobcats offensive presentation could only be backed by a sensational day from the circle from senior Marisa Boyette (Marietta, Georgia). Boyette had eight strikeouts in the shutout facing 18 batters.
The Bobcats dropped the second game against Wayne State University 4-1.
The only score for Georgia College happened on a string of stolen bases. With runners on first and third, the runner on first took off to take second base, while the throw was in progress the Bobcat in scoring position stole home. Junior pitcher Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) threw the game, and earner her second loss of the season.
The Bobcats continue play at the Shaw University Softball Challenge against Winston-SalemStat University at 1 p.m. and Tusculum College at 4 p.m.
