MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College (34-14) Softball team swept Montevallo today on Senior Day at the Peeler Complex, taking game one in mercy-rule fashion, 11-3, and swiping the second game 4-0 thanks to a Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) complete-game shutout, her sixth of the season.
The day began with the Bobcats falling down early to Montevallo. The Falcons grabbed two runs in the first inning but the Bobcats responded with two runs of their own after senior Lacey Najafi's (Suwanee) single down the right field line brought in two. The Bobcats added another in the second and then exploded for five in the third. Emily Robertson (Dacula) brought in two with a long home run to left field and the Bobcats strung together base hit after base hit to bring in three more.
Kristen Brooks (Brunswick) homered to start the fourth and the Bobcats added another in the fourth before closing out the game in the fifth with a Brooks RBI single that brought in the 11th Bobcat run of the day, invoking the mercy rule.
Brooke Taylor (Powder Springs) got her fifth win after four innings of solid pitching inside the circle. Dani Bernstein (Cumming) went 3-for-3 with a run and Caroline Snider (Tennille) was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Najafi, Brooks and Robertson each finished with two RBIs.
In game two Bobcat pitching was the story. Lewis was phenomenal, going the full seven, allowing only five hits and striking out eight without surrendering a run.
The Bobcats brought in one run each of the last four innings to seal their second win of the day.
Senior Abi LeRoy (Dublin) had the biggest game two, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a triple.
The two wins tie the Bobcat seniors for the All-time winningest senior class in school history.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday for a doubleheader with Albany State University beginning at 3 p.m. in Milledgeville.
