GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Georgia College Softball (37-15, 12-10 PBC) team split games at Lander University (24-20, 10-12) taking game one 12-1 and dropping the second 1-0.
Game one was a Bobcat showcase as the Bearcats were held to only eight hits, and one run from pitchers freshman Brooke Taylor (Powder Springs, Georgia) and senior Marissa Boyette (Marietta, Georgia) while the offense plated 12 runs.
The Bobcats scored their runs in bunches starting in the second inning. Senior Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins, Georgia) logged the first RBI with a double to left center scoring Faith Flanders (Dublin, Georgia). With Campbell on base Baylee Hall (Hephzibah, Georgia) smashed a double of her own to send Campbell around the bags. The next batter Danielle Bernstein (Cumming, Georgia) singled down the rightfield line to score Hall and go up on Lander 3-1 early. The Bobcats put up three more runs in the fourth off two RBIs from Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Georgia) and the catcher Lacey Najafi (Suwanee, Georgia).
Georgia College turned up the volume and closed out the game in the sixth after plating seven more. Najafi singled to right scoring both Hannah Coursey (Sugar Hill) and Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) to start the onslaught. Flanders earned the next RBI after reaching base on a fielding error scoring Kristen Brooks (Brunswick, Georgia) in the process. After Brooks crossed the plate the Bobcats laid it on thick with Emily Robertson (Dacula, Georgia), Campbell, Hall and Holland Coursey RBIs with two outs to edge off the Bearcats 13-1 with the run rule.
The second game was a much more slow-paced match with Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) getting the start at the circle. Lewis only allowed one run to score off of a Lander solo home run. The Bobcat offense was unable to generate any runs from the Bearcats pitching and defensive effort, only logging three hits on the game.
The Bobcats dropped the second game 1-0 to split action against Lander University.
