FLORENCE, S.C. – The Georgia College Softball (29-13, 6-8 PBC) dropped two games to Peach Belt Conference (PBC) contender Francis Marion University (29-15, 7-9 PBC) 5-12 and 7-8 Saturday in Florence, S.C.

In both games the Bobcats started the shooting, scoring five runs early, but fell to the Patriots. Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Georgia) tallied the first RBI in the first contest, reaching base on a sacrifice bunt fielder's choice soring Kristen Brooks (Brunswick, Georgia). The Bobcats RBI leader Faith Flanders (Dublin, Georgia) logged anther one on her impressive season with a shot up the Patriot gut and bringing LeRoy around the bags for the second Bobcat score. Designated player Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins, Georgia) ripped a double to center to score Flanders and catcher Lacey Najafi (Suwanee, Georgia) for the third and fourth Bobcat runs. Hannah Coursey (Sugar Hill, Georgia) grounded out to the Patriots shortstop to help her sister Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill, Georgia) pass home plate to close out the Georgia College scoring.

The Bobcats threw four different pitchers at Francis Marion but were unable to stump their offence. The Patriots had a seven-run first inning to answer the impressive Bobcat start and closed out the day with 12 runs.

In game two the Bobcats took a quick 5-2 lead in the top of the second. Brooks scored the second run after taking a pitch to the body with the bases loaded. Caroline Snider (Tennille, Georgia) came up to the plate next and pushed out a single to left field to score Campbell. Najafi singled to left center to earn two RBIs after Snider and Brooks showed impressive speed and passed home plate. The Patriots once again answered the Bobcats powerful inning with a five run inning of their own and taking the lead 5-7.

The Bobcats attempted a comeback in the sixth scoring two more runs to tie the ball game up at seven but were trumped in the bottom of the seventh when Francis Marion scored one more run to win 8-7.

Georgia College Softball plays next Sunday, April 3 at UNC Pembroke. The first pitch is set for noon.
