MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College Softball (32-14, 9-9 PBC) bombarded Georgia Southwestern State University (23-27, 7-13 PBC) with seven home runs between both games at home Friday, taking the wins in both 9-3 and 10-2.

The Bobcats couldn't keep their hits in the park in front of the home crowd against the Hurricanes. In game one catcher Lacey Najafi (Suwannee) started the unrelenting string of powerful at bats with a three-run home run sending Abi LeRoy (Dublin), Caroline Snider (Tennille) and herself around the bags. Kristen Brooks (Brunswick) stepped up to the plate next and dished up another home run, followed by Faith Flanders (Dublin) who added insult to injury and cracked another bomb to score six runs in the third inning.

Georgia College scored three more runs in the fourth inning to topple Georgia Southwestern off an RBI single from LeRoy, a throwing error at home, and a wild pitch to help Taylor Campbell (Warner Robins), Snider and LeRoy plate the runs.  Najafi came up to the batters box after LeRoy's single, and after a wild pitch escaped the catcher's grasp, LeRoy and Snider sprinted home to capitalize and score the last two Bobcat runs.

Brooke Taylor (Powder Springs) got the start and earned the win after pitching four innings with three strikeouts and only four hits. Marisa Boyette (Marietta) came in to pitch in relief in the fifth inning. She closed out the first game holding the hurricanes hitless and logging two strikeouts.

Game two was an almost identically impressive performance from game one, with Bobcat bombs boosting them to victory.

In the third inning with the Bobcats already on top of the Hurricanes 6-2 after two runs in the first and four in the second after another Najafi home run, Georgia College had two more sluggers drop bombs over the fence to the back net. The Bobcat batters had the Hurricane pitchers' numbers with Brooks logging her second home run of the night in the fourth followed shortly by Emily Robertson (Dacula) who also pushed one out to run the bases. The home run for Robertson was the first of the sophomore's career.

Najafi now has four home runs this season, while Brooks owns six and Flanders has tallied seven. LeRoy joined the party in game two with her second round-tripper of the season.

Great pitching by junior Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tennessee) kept the Bobcat offense going and the Hurricanes from gaining any traction. She pitched the five fully-played innings logging nine strikeouts and only allowing six hits and the two runs to score. The Bobcats defeated Georgia Southwestern 10-2 in the fifth inning via the run rule.

The victories put Georgia College at 9-9 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, good for fifth in the league standings. The top eight advance to the PBC Tournament, to be held in Milledgeville April 22-23.

Bobcat Softball is back in action this Sunday, April 10 at home against the University of Montevallo. The Senior Day games are set to start at 2 p.m.
