Milestone Games for McGriff, Walker as Bobcat Women's Hoops tops Young Harris, 57-54

Box Score

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Junior Alyah McGriff (Suwanee) came off the bench for 30 points and senior LaRice Walker (Franklin) netted her 1,000th career point as the Georgia College Women's Basketball team (11-5, 5-4 PBC) dispatched Young Harris College (7-8, 3-5 PBC) 57-54 on the road Wednesday night.

McGriff entered the game at the 4:32 mark in the first quarter, finishing the half with nine points. She was responsible for 15 of the team's points in the deciding fourth quarter. YHC's Recreation and Fitness Center continues to be a great location for big games from the Bobcats, as McGriff's effort was the first 30-point game for GC Women's Hoops since the school's all-time leading scorer Shanteona Keys had 30 Jan. 28, 2015 at Young Harris.

McGriff made her first five shots from the field in the fourth, finishing 12-for-16 in shooting, grabbing nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Scoring came in bunches for McGriff, as she out-gained the rest of the Bobcat squad 30-27.

Walker entered the game with 997 career points but had a slow start, hitting a pair of free-throws for her first points at the 2:26 mark of the second quarter. The guard picked up points number 1,000 and 1,001 at the 6:39 mark in the third, when McGriff got a steal and found Walker in transition. Walker finished with six points and seven assists. She stands at 1,003 career points, the 14th GC Women's Basketball player in the 1,000-point club.

In the close contest, the Bobcat points came from the paint by a 30-16 advantage, and Georgia College out-scored YHC 12-0 in fast-break points.

The win puts the Bobcats at 5-4, good for fifth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) West Division Standings.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1:30 p.m., playing host to Georgia Southwestern State University.
