Box Score GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Georgia College Women's Soccer team (10-5, 6-3 PBC) continued a surge as of late, taking their final regular season road contest by a 3-1 score at Lander University (7-7, 3-6 PBC) Wednesday.
The Bobcats have now won five straight, and have taken seven of their last eight.
It took less than eight minutes for junior Anya Mancinelli (Atlanta, Georgia) to net the match's first goal, as freshman Cassie Balzano (Douglasville, Georgia) tallied the assist for a quick 1-0 lead that would hold until halftime.
The next two strikes came just over a minute apart for the Bobcats, as junior Amanda Bartholomew (Peachtree City, Georgia) sent in her 19th of the season in the 65th minute, then found freshman Sophia Bonser (Tyrone, Georgia) for the 3-0 lead in the 66th minute. The goal was the first of Bonser's career.
Lander's Kayla Walker would prevent the team from getting shut out, scoring her first goal of the season in the 77th minute, but the Bearcats could inch no closer.
Georgia College gets to 10 wins for the fourth time under head coach Hope Clark. The Bobcats improve to 7-5-3 in the tightly-contested series all-time with the Bearcats, including wins for GC Soccer in the last three meetings.
The Bobcats now have 18 points in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Standings, good for sixth. With one match left, the Bobcats could finish as high as third and no lower than sixth. The top eight qualify for the PBC Tournament, while the top four receive hosting rights for the quarterfinal round matchups.
