MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – No. 11 Georgia College Men's Tennis (2-2, 1-1 PBC) dropped its second match of the three-game weekend Saturday as the No. 18 University of North Georgia Nighthawks (6-0, 2-0 PBC) came out on top of a 6-3 final.
Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) and Pedro Ecenarro (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) got the first win for the Bobcats in doubles with an 8-5 putout in the third spot. Christian Graff (Lohmar, Germany) and Vincent Castermans (Grenoble, France) battled closely with their opponents on court one, losing 8-6. Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee) and Anton Waern (Taby, Sweden) had similar results, dropping their doubles match-up in the second line, 8-3.
Court three boded well for the Bobcats Saturday afternoon, garnering all three Georgia College points. Ecenarro added another point to the Bobcats' score with his 6-4, 7-5 win over North Georgia's Hugues Renaud. Campus was also victorious over Mark Laishley on the far court, 6-3, 6-4.
Graff had another exciting three-set match on court one. The graduate student went up against No. 7 Niklas Zielen. The two Germans battled into a tiebreaking third set, Graff taking the first set of the split. After a hard fought third set, North Georgia's Zielen came out on top, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Castermans faced No. 16 Alex Reinauer in the second line of action. The Bobcat retired the match at 6-0, 1-0. Waern fought hard to split with Andre Canino in the fourth spot. The GC senior secured the first set 6-4 but fell with a pair of 6-1 scores in the last two sets.
Kinsler finished off the day for the Bobcats with a 6-1, 6-2 loss against Lukas Moritzen in the sixth line.
The Bobcats close out their long weekend of play tomorrow, Feb. 26, against No. 4 Lander University. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Centennial Center Courts.
