GC Women's Basketball Drops Montevallo, 71-43

Box Score

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – In the final Peach Belt Conference (PBC) meeting between the two schools, the Georgia College Women's Basketball team (13-8, 7-7 PBC) dominated the University of Montevallo (5-18, 2-14 PBC) 71-43 on the road Wednesday night.

Leading the charge was junior Alyah McGriff (Suwanee, Georgia) posting a 28-point, 11-rebound double-double, her fifth this season. McGriff tied for the team-high with four assists and swatted a pair of shots as well.

Montevallo got the scoring started with a free throw, Georgia College responding with a Shay Tarver (Covington, Georgia) jumper at the 5:11 mark for the Bobcats' first lead. The advantage was one they would never relinquish. Tarver's jumper keyed a 9-0 run.

The push continued into the second half, as Georgia College led by as much as 28 points when McGriff sunk a layup for a 51-23 score at the 1:36 mark in the third.

McGriff finished her masterful evening 11-of-16 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Sydney Cleveland (Gainesville, Georgia) added 10 points, while Tarver finished with 10 off the bench as well. Eight different Bobcats scored on the evening.

Senior LaRice Walker's (Franklin, Georgia) three assists tonight give her 386 in her career, passing Larkin Cleaveland (2000-04) for fourth in school history. Up next is Lisa Havior (1986-90) at 423.

The Falcons will move to the Gulf South Conference next season, marking the end of PBC play for Montevallo.

Georgia College evens out to 7-7 in PBC play with five contests left. That record puts the Bobcats at fourth in the West Division, with the top four teams advancing to the PBC Tournament Feb. 25. Georgia College could finish as high as second or as low as sixth depending on how the remaining schedule fleshes out.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 8 at 1:30 p.m., hosting Young Harris College for Senior Day at the Centennial Center. GC Athletics looks forward to honoring the five Bobcat seniors Saturday.
