MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – No. 19 Georgia College Women's Tennis (4-4) dropped just their fourth match of the season to Auburn University-Montgomery (8-1) Friday afternoon. The ladies lost five matches before stopping play and giving the Warhawks the 5-0 final win.
Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) and
Emma Niemi (Cumming) started off the day in line one doubles as usual. They had a close bout with Auburn-Montgomery's Paula Diaz and Anna Rudolfova but fell 8-6.
Macy Polk (Powder Springs) and
Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee) dropped their doubles match 8-0 to Kelly Southwood and Celine Lenertz, but
Camilla Negrini (Milan, Italy) and
Kristen Jones (Marietta) faired a bit better against their opponents. The Warhawks – Alejandra Gil and Iris Verweij – came out on top though, 8-6.
Polk and Negrini were the only Bobcats to finish their singles matches for the day. Verweij got the better of Negrini in the third spot with a pair of 6-0 sets, and Southwood earned Auburn-Montgomery's fifth point of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Polk in the number one spot.
The Bobcats head to Augusta as they play another Peach Belt Conference (PBC) game at Augusta University Sunday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
