YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (19-8, 7-5 PBC) took both games of the Saturday doubleheader on the road against Young Harris College (10-17, 4-8 PBC) with a huge comeback win in game one 14-13, followed by a 16-7 blowout in game two. The Bobcats have now won three of their four Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series this season.

Georgia College mounted a huge comeback in game one, down as many as 10 runs early in the contest.  It took a while for the bats to get going, but the Bobcats ended up scoring 14 runs on a whopping 20 hits compared to the Young Harris 13 runs on 15 hits.

The Bobcats found themselves in an 11-1 hole after four innings of play.  They began their comeback by pushing across two in the fifth and another in the sixth.  The Georgia College bats exploded in the top of the sixth after posting a six-spot, taking a one-run lead heading into the bottom half. The Mountain Lions plated one in the bottom of the sixth to knot things up at 12-12.

Georgia College regained the lead in the eighth, plating one run then adding some insurance in the ninth with a solo-shot from Logan Mattix (Loganville). Mattix had two RBIs in game one.

The Bobcats held a 14-12 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth with Grant Khan (Richmond, Texas) on the bump.  The Mountain Lions managed to score one run, but Khan worked out of a bases loaded jam to earn the save and the win for Georgia College, 14-13.  Colin LoCurto (Kennesaw) was credited with the win after throwing two key innings late in the game, allowing only one run and fanning two.

Notable afternoon performances came from Mattix, Cal Gentry (Perry), Wesley Wommack (Monroe) and Nate Schmal (Cumming) who each had three-hit performances.

Game two of the Saturday doubleheader was a little more lopsided in favor of the Bobcats.  Georgia College put up big offensive numbers yet again with 16 runs on 19 hits to clinch another conference series over the Mountain Lions, 16-7.

The hot Bobcat bats picked up right where they left off in game one, scoring two runs in the top of the first to put Young Harris on the ropes early. The pair of runs were credited to Mattix who drove them in on a single through the left side. Georgia College grabbed the lead from the start and never looked back, carrying a 5-1 advantage into the seventh inning.

The Georgia College offense put the game well out of reach in the top half of the seventh after posting 11 runs.  Catcher Brandon Purcell (Glennville) had himself an inning with a pair of home runs including a grand slam to drive in a total of six runs in the top half of the inning. Purcell was perfect at the dish in game two, going 5-for-5 with two home runs, seven RBIs and four runs scored. Purcell is the second Bobcat to hit two home runs in an inning this week, as Mattix put that effort together in the win over Erskine College Tuesday.

Senior Trevor Guthrie (Cumming) got the nod for Georgia College and had an impressive outing, throwing five innings, allowing one earned on five hits while striking out two, earning his second win of the 2017 campaign.

Multi-hit performances came from Brandon Benson (Loganville), Brendan Holler (Gilroy, California) and Garrett Green (Bogart) who each had a pair of hits; Gentry added three hits in the lead-off spot.

Georgia College will be back on the diamond next weekend when they host Columbus State University at John Kurtz Field Friday, March 31 at 6 p.m.
