AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 31 Georgia College Women's Tennis (7-7, 4-3 PBC) team got back in the win column as they halted the Augusta University Jaguars (6-11, 1-9 PBC) 7-2 in a make-up road game Tuesday.
The Bobcats took the lead early with two wins from doubles. Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) and Emma Niemi (Cumming) dominated in the first flight, beating Marie Cantenot and Joana Barcelo 8-3. The senior second line pair of Macy Polk (Powder Springs) and Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee) had similar success, topping Monica Gonzalez and Amelia Pinoargote 8-4. Georgia College came close to a full sweep as Camilla Negrini (Milan, Italy) and Kristen Jones (Marietta) fell in a tight bout with Alejandra Arranz and Eva Miralles-Miro 9-7.
The Jags tied it up with a win in the third line, but the Bobcats then swept the rest of the field with five straight singles wins. First, Kelly won against Arranz in the second line 6-0, 6-1. Polk wasn't too far behind on a neighboring court, defeating Gonzalez 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot.
Jones got the fifth win for the Bobcats, securing the seventh victory for the season. The Bobcat junior topped Cantenot in the sixth spot 6-3, 6-1. Serdinia and Niemi followed soon after, getting wins of their own. Serdinia stopped Pinoargote in the fourth line 6-3, 6-4, as Niemi beat Barcelo for the second time, 6-3, 6-1. Niemi now leads the team with eight total singles wins this season.
The Bobcats head to Florence, South Carolina, Friday to play No. 37 Francis Marion University. The ladies will then head to USC Aiken on their way back to Milledgeville Sunday. Friday and Sunday's first serves are scheduled for 2 p.m.
