FLORENCE, S.C. – The No. 14 Georgia College Men's Tennis team (9-9, 3-6 PBC) was upset 7-2 on the road Friday at Francis Marion University (7-9, 3-7 PBC).
The Bobcats were swept in doubles action, two matches going to tiebreakers. In the first slot, Christian Graff (Lohmar, Germany) and Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Georgia) fell 9-7 to Richard Ashforth and Tarass Thevenaz.
In second doubles, Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) and Pedro Ecenarro (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) lost by the same score to Matheo Espinoza and Henri Broeseler.
Third doubles brought an 8-1 defeat for Anton Waern (Taby, Sweden) and Nathan Connelly (McDonough, Georgia) at the hands of Raul Madrid and Jannik Roettlingsberger.
In singles play, the Bobcats got their wins in the second and third slots. Ecenarro took straight sets from Roettlingsberger 7-5 and 6-0, the Bobcat junior's 100th career win. Waern edged Thevenaz in three sets, a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 battle. Waern's win evens his singles record at 9-9.
In first singles, No. 36 Graff fell in a ranked showdown with No. 24 Ashforth 6-7(7-5), 6-4. Campus lost by default to Espinoza in the fourth line. Kinsler took Madrid the distance in a loss in fifth singles 1-6, 7-6(7-5), 11-9, and Connelly dropped a 4-6, 1-6, 10-4 bout to Broeseler.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, April 15 at 10 a.m., hosting No. 24 Flagler College for Bobcat Senior Day.
