Box Score ROME, Ga. - The Georgia College Baseball team (9-4) dropped a tight non-conference matchup at Shorter University (9-7) 6-4 Tuesday, a ninth-inning rally falling short.
The Bobcats scored first but not often enough. Catcher Brandon Purcell (Glennville) singled and eventually scored on another single by rightfielder Mike Warren (Atlanta). Shorter answered right away with two in the bottom half.
Purcell brought the Bobcats even again with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, but after the Hawks plated three more runs, Georgia College entered the ninth down 6-2.
Three-straight hits to start the ninth ended in an RBI single again for Warren. After an out and hit-batsman loaded the bases, shortstop Cal Gentry (Perry) scores one more on a sacrifice fly. The final out unfortunately came next, with the tying run at first.
Junior Colin LoCurto (Kennesaw) took the loss (0-2) in an inning of work. The top hurler for Georgia College on the day was junior Chandler Amason (Grayson), throwing 3 2/3 scoreless, scattering two hits and adding two whiffs.
Purcell finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Warren also had two hits and two driven in, while both Logan Mattix (Loganville) and Nate Schmal (Cumming) had two hits and a run.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 2 at 6 p.m., traveling to No. 34 USC Aiken.
