Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Softball team (17-9, 4-0 PBC) stayed perfect in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, sweeping games from Georgia Southwestern State University (10-15, 0-4 PBC) 11-10 and 8-7 Friday at the Peeler Complex. The Bobcats extended their win streak to six in a row.
The first game was ruled by the big inning, as the Bobcats got four in the first and five in the third and seemingly had things under control. A big five-run fifth from GSW, combined with another run in the sixth put Georgia College at a one-run, 11-10 lead heading into the top of the seventh. The Hurricanes wrapped two outs around a single to start. Then came another single and a Bobcat error to put the tying run on third base and the dangerous Lauren Keurzi at the plate. The GSW first baseman had two home runs under her belt already in the contest.
Keurzi took a look at a ball off the edge of the plate on a 3-2 count for a walk to load the bases, but as she was headed toward first base, Bobcat catcher Jessica Hayles (Gordon) fired a pickoff attempt down the third-base line and caught the Hurricane runner napping for the final out of the game in a bizarre finish.
Freshman Caitlyn Davis (Kathleen) paced the offense in game one, going 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs. Senior Baylee Hall (Hephzibah) scored twice and drove in two more as part of a 3-for-5 game. Senior Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.
Senior Hannah Coursey (Sugar Hill) and freshman Sarah Couch (Madison) each went 2-for-3, Couch recording two RBIs and a run, while Hannah Coursey scored once and drove in another. Freshman Rebecca Lawrence (Vidalia) got the win in 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Game two found the Bobcats trailing 7-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Holland Coursey yanked a single through the right side to get the rally started. Freshman Sutton Long (Milledgeville) then blasted a pitch over the rightfielder's head and off the fence for a stand-up triple, tying the game. Hannah Coursey entered as a pinch hitter and promptly sent the 3-2 pitch back up the middle for the walk-off win.
Junior Caroline Snider (Tennille) drove in four in game two, going 2-for-3 with a run. Long and Holland Coursey each had three hits; Holland Coursey scoring twice, Long driving in one and touching the plate two times. Hall had a 2-for-4 game with a run scored.
Lawrence grabbed the win in relief again, getting the final two outs of the seventh to improve to 4-4.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m., playing host to Coker College.
