Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Softball squad (19-9) had a pair of convincing victories Sunday at the Peeler Complex, sweeping a doubleheader from Coker College (19-9) 8-2 and 13-5.
Game one was highlighted by a complete-game effort from freshman Jessie Morris (Vidalia) in her first career start. The rookie improved to 3-0 by tossing seven innings, scattering seven hits and two walks for just two runs, and fanning 10.
The Bobcats jumped out early with four in the first and two more in the second and never looked back. Junior Caroline Snider (Tennille) provided the big blow in the first with a two-run single. Georgia College took an 8-0 lead after freshman Caitlyn Davis (Kathleen) drove home two with a single in the fourth.
Sophomore Amber Coy (Warner Robins) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a pair of runs. Senior Baylee Hall (Hephzibah) added a 2-for-4 game with two runs scored.
Game two was a shootout, as Coker actually scored the game's first three runs in the top of the first. The Bobcats answered with three of their own in the bottom half, then plated five in the second and three more in the third to take over.
Davis shone again, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs, adding a double. Coy had a two-run blast in the first, her second of the year. The shortstop was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs. Hall added two more hits in four trips again, scoring twice and picking up three stolen bases.
Davis sprayed a double to the wall in right to put two runs in during the bottom of the fifth, getting the eight-run lead necessary to end the game early via run-rule.
Reliever Rebecca Lawrence (Vidalia) improved to 5-4 with the victory, throwing 2 1/3 innings allowing a single run and striking out five.
The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, March 22 at noon, traveling to Carson-Newman University.
