Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Three pitchers for Georgia College Softball (22-10) combined to allow zero earned runs in a doubleheader sweep of Albany State University (14-18). The Bobcats won the two games 7-0 and 5-2 Thursday at the Peeler Complex.
Freshman Jessie Morris (Vidalia) threw the shutout in game one, allowing just three hits. Morris (5-0) struck out eight Golden Rams while not walking a single batter. Morris retired 14 of the last 15 batters in the game.
The Bobcats got single runs each in the first three innings, and then three runs of insurance in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) came a double shy of the cycle, including a solo blast over the rightfield fence in the second. She finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs. Freshman Sarah Couch (Madison) had two hits in four trips, scoring twice.
Classmate Haley Howell (Rochelle) had two hits, as did senior Baylee Hall (Hephzibah), who also scored a run and stole a base.
In game two, freshman Rebecca Lawrence (Vidalia) did the dealing, holding a one-hit shutout through six innings. The rookie lefty (6-4) started to labor in the seventh, giving up three hits and a run. After loading the bases on an infield single, she turned the reins over to junior Becca Meade (Winder) with no one out in the seventh and the tying run at the plate.
Meade fanned a pinch hitter for the first out, and induced a flyout that scored the second run to make the game 5-2. With the go-ahead run now at the plate, Meade got another flyout to end the game, picking up her first save.
Coursey's momentum carried to game two, where she was 2-for-4 with another RBI and a run. Sophomore Amber Coy (Warner Robins) added a 2-for-3 game with an RBI and a run as well. Freshman Sutton Long (Milledgeville) had three hits and a run scored, while classmate Lindley Bruce (Kennesaw) added a pair of hits.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 30 at 3 p.m., playing host to Emmanuel College.
