Box Score 2 YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Georgia College Softball team (9-7) split action with King University (6-6) Saturday, taking game one 9-3 before dropping the second 10-5. The teams are in day one of a two-day classic at Young Harris College.
The Bobcats never trailed in game one, plating two runs in the second and three in the third for an early 5-0 lead. Another four spot came in the fifth as the Bobcats put up runs in bunches to get the win.
Freshman Sutton Long (Milledgeville) had a three-run home run and two-run double in a massive game, out-scoring King with those two swings of the bat. She finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs and a run. Senior Holland Coursey (Sugar Hill) was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, while freshman Caitlyn Davis (Kathleen) added her own 2-for-3 game, scoring twice and driving in one.
Sophomore Amber Coy (Warner Robins) and freshman Sarah Couch (Madison) each had two hits, Coy adding a run scored.
Junior Becca Meade (Winder) improved to 5-1 with the win, going three innings with one earned run. Freshman Rebecca Lawrence (Vidalia) tossed the final four innings with one run, notching her third save.
Game two featured two come-from-behind efforts from King to split the doubleheader. The Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when Davis swatted her first career home run and Coy added an RBI single.
After King took the lead 4-2, Georgia College got a three-run fourth to get in front again. The big blow was a Coursey two-run single. The Tornado got back in front with a five-run fifth, and rode that to victory.
Davis was 3-for-4 with the solo home run in game two, finishing the doubleheader 5-for-7 with three runs and two RBIs. Coy went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, and Couch had a 3-for-3 game with a run scored as well.
Righty starter Kayla Price (Indian Land, South Carolina) took the loss (4-4) in 2 1/3 innings of work.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 3 at noon, taking on Wingate University in doubleheader action to finish the tournament.
