Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 12 Georgia College Baseball team (24-7) controlled Saturday's game at Florida Tech (12-20) from start to finish, getting good pitching and timely hitting in an 8-3 road victory. The win helps the Bobcats complete the three-game sweep at the Panthers.
The Bobcats scored first in the first. Senior Brandon Purcell (Glennville, Georgia) singled home Matthew Miller (San Diego, California) to get the scoring started. Georgia College added two more on a Cal Gentry (Perry, Georgia) single in the second, and nabbed another on a wild pitch to get a 4-0 advantage in the second. GC Baseball scored two more in the seventh and two in the ninth to keep the Panthers at arm's reach.
Sophomore Matt Studdard (Conyers, Georgia) had his best start of the year, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and fanning two. Studdard moved to 3-1 with the win, turning the final two outs in the seventh over to freshman Trevor Evans (Milledgeville, Georgia). Junior Chandler Amason (Grayson, Georgia) got the final two innings for his first save.
Gentry finished with two hits and three RBIs, as seniors Logan Mattix (Loganville, Georgia) and Nate Schmal (Cumming) each went 2-for-5. Third baseman Garrett Green (Bogart, Georgia) had two more hits in four at-bats, scoring twice and senior Caleb Slaughter (Cochran, Georgia) added a 2-for-2 game with two RBIs and a run.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 6 at 6 p.m., playing host to Lander University.
