#25 GC Men's Tennis Comes Up Short at #3 Lander, 6-3

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Taking on their fifth top-10 team this season, the No. 25 Georgia College Men's Tennis team (10-7, 5-2 PBC) split singles but it wasn't enough, falling 6-3 at No. 3 Lander University (18-2, 8-1 PBC) Tuesday.

The Bobcats dropped all three doubles bouts. No. 44 Jannik Kumbier (Neumunster, Germany) and Robin Moller (Hamburg, Germany) fell 8-6 to Axel Cronje and David Korsten in the first slot.

Eirik Groner and Ozan Cildir topped Pedro Ecenarro (Santiago de Compostella, Spain) and Enzo Kohn (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) 8-4 in the second line, and the third doubles match was won by default.

Lander moved the lead to 4-0 with the first singles win, as Gabriel Couto beat Nathan Connelly (McDonough, Georgia) 6-0, 6-2. The Bearcats then clinched the team win in fifth singles, where Noah Wallace (Grayson, Georgia) lost to Philippe Courteau in a pair of 6-1 sets. Kohn earned Georgia College's first point, getting his 10th win of the year with a 6-4, 7-6 effort over Tommaso Rossin in fourth singles.

Moller then dropped a 6-0, 7-6 bout to Cronje in third singles. The Bobcats took the final two bouts, first with Kumbier outlasting Cildir 3-6, 6-2, 10-4 on the second line and No. 24 Ecenarro beating No. 31 Groner 7-5, 6-7, 10-7 in a marathon in the top spot. Ecenarro is 12-3 on the season, with Kumbier at a team-best 13-2.

The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, April 12 at 4 p.m., traveling to No. 4 Columbus State University.
