#8 GC Baseball Sweeps Winston-Salem State with Sunday Win, 16-0

Box Score

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 8 Georgia College Baseball team (39-10) completed their 2018 regular-season campaign with a convincing win over the Winston-Salem State University Rams (30-20) in seven innings at John Kurtz Field Sunday afternoon, 16-0.

Georgia College continued their trend of scoring a crooked number in the first inning as they plated three runs to take an early 3-0 lead.  A single by both Logan Mattix (Loganville) and Brandon Purcell (Glennville) drove in the first to runs of the inning followed by a RBI double to right-center from Brandt Stallings (Buford).

Stallings managed to drive in another run in the bottom of the third with a single up the middle and Garrett Green (Bogart) added to it with a two-run double to get the Bobcats out to a 6-0 lead after three innings.  Stallings had a big day going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.

The Georgia College offense was rolling as they added six more in the fourth and another four for good measure in the sixth to lock up their sweep over the Rams.

The Bobcat pitching staff had a great afternoon as well combining for a five-hit shutout.  Harrison Veldsma (Marietta) got the start and earned his third win of the year tossing four innings while allowing just four hits. Junior righty Perry Keith (LaGrange) got two outs, freshman lefty Trevor Evans (Milledgeville) finished the fifth. Junior Colin LoCurto (Kennesaw) started the sixth with two outs, and classmate Bradley Spinner (Roswell) finished that inning. Sophomore Kyle King (Johns Creek) then ended the game with a 1-2-3 seventh.

A notable performance came from Nate Schmal (Cumming) who was perfect 3-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored to clinch the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) regular-season batting average title at .429.

The PBC Regular-Season Champion Bobcats will be the No. 1-seed for the upcoming PBC Tournament in St. Augustine, Florida May 11-13.
