Bobcat Men's Tennis Starts 2020 with Shutout

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College Men's Tennis (1-0) ran the table on Morehouse College (0-1) Saturday at the Centennial Center Courts, shutting out the Maroon Tigers 7-0 to start the 2020 season.

Action started with a doubles sweep. Senior Nathan Connelly (McDonough) teamed with junior Ben Van Hout (Woodstock) for a 6-1 win in the second slot over Maurice Pugh and Vernand Littles. The third slot clinched the doubles point for GC as junior Cole Heller (Woodstock) and freshman Sebastian Nunez (Buford) won over Julian Rheams and Darian Mallory 6-1. Senior Matt Rogel (Sautron, France) and junior Lukas Zavrel (Ulvano, Czech Republic) closed out doubles with a 6-2 win over Aseda Adebamgbe and Shelton Sutton.  

Rogel brought in the team's first singles point, blanking Sutton in the first slot. Next came a shutout win for sophomore Ben McClurg (Belfast, Northern Ireland) in the sixth slot over Mallory. Heller topped Rheams 6-0, 6-2 in fourth singles.

Connelly clinched the team victory with a third-singles win over Pugh by a 6-0, 6-2 score. Sophomore Ben Grunert (Roswell) won in fifth singles 6-0, 6-1 over Littles and Zavrel beat Adebamgbe 6-1, 6-0 in the second slot to close things out.

The Bobcats have opened each of the last nine seasons with a shutout of Morehouse.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m., traveling to No. 19 Valdosta State University.
