Box Score
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Leading for much of the contest, a six-run eighth provided the first blemish on the record for Georgia College Baseball (8-1, 4-1 PBC) as the Bobcats lost to Francis Marion University (5-4, 1-1 PBC) 7-4 Saturday at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats were cruising along, leading 4-1 after seven innings, thanks in part to a strong start from senior Harrison Veldsma (Marietta). The towering righty threw the first seven innings, allowing just a single run on five hits and three walks. He fanned four and induced three double play grounders.
GC went to the bullpen in the eighth, and FMU pounced. The Patriots scored six runs on just two hits, four walks and three hit batsmen. The Bobcats threw five pitchers in the inning, with Connor Darling (Suwanee) taking the loss in his first outing of the year.
Georgia College had 11 hits on the afternoon, shortstop Cassius Young (Atlanta) leading the way with a 2-for-4 day, two RBIs and a run. The junior had the team's lone extra-base hit with a double. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) also went 2-for-4, now leading all of NCAA Division II in hits with 20 this season. Catcher Austin Holloway (Social Circle) went 2-for-5 with a run.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m., finishing the three-game series with the Patriots.
