GREENWOOD, S.C. - A pair of sophomores picked up singles wins as the Georgia College Women's Tennis team (0-4, 0-1 PBC) fell in a hard-fought 5-2 battle Sunday at Lander University (4-2, 1-0 PBC).
Lander took the doubles point with wins in the second and third slots. The Bobcats pulled off the victory on the first line, as sophomores Jordan Bowie (Macon, Georgia) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee, Georgia) slipped by Kayleigh Hahn and Nelli Lius 7-6.
The second doubles pairing of Irina Berklich (Sandy Springs, Georgia) and Tyla Carter lost to Polina Radchenko and Eduarda Ferreira 6-2. In the third slot, Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) and Emily Pope (Canton, Georgia) lost to Lindsey Wiggins and Kylee Ramsey 6-3.
The Bearcats doubled their advantage to 2-0 with the first singles result, coming from the sixth slot. Pope lost to Wiggins 6-1, 6-0. Carter then dropped a 6-2, 6-1 matchup with Raquel Acco in the fifth slot.
Fleming got the team's first point in the second slot, beating Lius 6-4, 6-2. Lander then clinched the team point with a win in fourth singles, where Bowie fell to Radchenko by a pair of 6-2 sets.
Next came a win for Berklich in the third slot, beating Hahn when the Bearcat retired in the third set. The day came to a close in first singles, a loss for Yatribi to Ferreira 6-4, 6-3
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, March 1 at 1 p.m., traveling to Valdosta State University to take on the University of Tampa
