GREENWOOD, S.C. – The upset bid for Georgia College Men's Tennis (1-3, 0-1 PBC) came up short, as the Bobcats fell at No. 6 Lander University (6-1, 1-0 PBC) Thursday via shutout.
The Bearcats took the doubles point, but GC picked up a win in the third slot. Junior Cole Heller (Woodstock, Georgia) teamed with freshman Sebastian Nunez (Buford, Georgia) for a 6-4 win over Guillaume Tattevin and Kim Oshiro.
In the first slot, Axel Cronje and Tommaso Rossin beat senior Nathan Connelly (McDonough, Georgia) and junior Lukas Zavrel (Ulvano, Czech Republic) 6-2. The second slot brought a shutout loss for sophomores Ben McClurg (Bellfast, Northern Ireland) and Ben Grunert (Roswell, Georgia) at the hands of Adam Elliget and Matthew De Groot.
Singles results began on the fifth line, where Nunez lost to Jamieson Nathan 6-1, 6-4. Next came a 6-3, 6-0 loss for Grunert to Oshiro in sixth singles. The Bearcats clinched the team victory with a point in the third slot, as Thomas De Negri beat Connelly in a pair of 6-1 sets.
McClurg lost a second singles bout to Tattevin 6-0, 6-4, and Zavrel lost to Elliget in the first line, 6-1, 6-2. The day came to a close with it's highest-contested bout, a 7-5, 6-7, 10-8 loss for Heller to Stanmir Petrovic.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, March 4 at 2 p.m., playing host to No. 24 University of North Georgia.
