Bobcat Men's Tennis Falls to #24 North Georgia, 7-0

PEACH BELT STANDINGS

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Men's Tennis team (2-4, 0-2 PBC) took on their fourth nationally-ranked team of the season Wednesday, falling to No. 24 University of North Georgia (7-1, 2-0 PBC) 7-0 at the Centennial Center Courts.

The Nighthawks took the doubles point with wins in the first and second lines, GC took the win in the third doubles bout.

The third slot finished first, with junior Cole Heller (Woodstock) and freshman Sebastian Nunez (Buford) teaming for a 6-2 win over Paul Pahun and Jared Bones.

UNG took the first slot to even things out, when senior Nathan Connelly (McDonough) and junior Lukas Zavrel (Ulvano, Czech Republic) fell to Ryan Gaskin and Kevin Candido 6-2. In the deciding bout at second doubles, sophomores Ben McClurg (Belfast, Northern Ireland) and Ben Grunert (Roswell) lost a 6-3 battle to Daniel Ostap and Zack Waldow.

The Nighthawks doubled their advantage to 2-0 with a win in first singles, Zavrel falling to Gaskin 6-0, 6-2. On the third line, Connelly lost to Waldow in a pair of 6-2 sets. McClurg took Ostap to the limit in second singles, but the UNG second-line player clinched the team victory with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 bout.

In fifth singles, Nunez lost to Candido 6-2, 6-1, followed by a fourth singles loss for Hellter to Pahun 7-5, 6-2. The day came to a close in sixth singles, a pair of 6-2 sets as Grunert lost to Bones.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, March 14 at 11 a.m., playing host to Lenoir-Rhyne University.
